Thank you for visiting our website.
Fall Line Fiber and Shearing is the result of a passion for fiber and the animals that produce it. Please visit often as inventory changes as different fibers are acquired and processed.
Who are we?
My desire has been to create a place on the internet where one can find and purchase alpaca, wool, and occasionally other types of fiber in the form of roving to spin, processed yarns, and finished products for gifts or personal use. And if you happen to be the owner of alpaca or sheep, this is where you can
come to schedule your annual shearing.
Don’t know what to do with all of that fiber that your animals produce? I’d happy to advise you on some of the many options you have and to help get you headed in the right direction. If you are not interested in the fiber aspect of the animal, I would be happy to discuss acquiring your fiber from you as well.
Where did the name come from?
Located in Central Virginia is what is called the Fall Line, a geographical line that separates the softer Atlantic Coastal Plain and the hard metamorphic rocks of the Piedmont of Virginia. The Fall Line parallels the Atlantic coastline from New Jersey to the Carolinas, almost following Interstate 95. Along this line, one will find not only a change in the geology from hard red clay to sandy loam, but also a change in elevation. Where rivers cross the fall line, waterfalls and rapids occur. The falls, a source of energy prior to electricity, hosted flume- and water-wheel-powered industries in colonial times and helped to determine the location of major cities, such as Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., and Richmond.
